Last night we were in for an absolute treat with the Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra greeting the stage of Camp de Mart open air Theatre Auditorium in Tarragona as part of the The ETC summer program.
The surviving member of the original Buena Vista Social Club, together with some fantastic new talents, gave a electrifying performance which got the audience out of their seat with impromptu standing ovations. The highlight of the concert was the moving entrance of the legendary, unforgettable and grand queen of the Cuban music scene, Omara Portuondo who delivered a very personal version ”Quizás, Quizás, Quizás” by Cuban songwriter Osvaldo Farré - by the time the song was over everyone had fallen in love with her.
The music the returned to pure Buena Vista Social Club with a concert that prompted enthusiastic encores until the musician bode the final goodbye and the audience dissolved in the warm summer night where crickets replaced the distant sounds of Havana.
