During the ten days celebration that is Santa Tecla several gastronomic hot points spring up around the city. The most notable and best of all is Santa Teca a mini gastro and musical feast which delivers local top quality produce in true indie style.
Santa Teca is the brainchild of Berna Rios, the maverick owner of Almosta restaurant and a passionate advocate of locally sourced organic food.
Started a few years back Santa Teca runs throughout the first weekend of Santa Tecla and offers a combination of quality food, organic, locally brewed beer, organic wine, tasting sessions and presentation coupled with live music delivered by some truly original local bands.
There has been a growing interest in local organic food product here for sometime and it’s relatively easy to get hold of natural wines, increasingly popular due to their unpredictable aromas.
Local representative on the food scene included some of the best restaurants in town like el Llagut, El Cortijo and, of course, Almosta. But there were also gastronomic offerings coming from as far as Valls, Torroja and Montblanc. On hand was also a small food market selling honey, rustic bread, cheeses, coffees and natural oils
Headed by the inimitable Les Clandestines, beer choice was eclectic, a true departure from the usual commercial brand found elsewhere. One of the most unusual offerings came from El Solà d’Ares , renowned for its excellent organic wines, with its very own Sol del Priorat a fantastic garnatxa infused beer (jokingly nicknamed Virra!).
