Semana Santa

The highlight of the Semana Santa in Tarragona is the large procession of Santo Entierro on Easter Friday. Thousands take part in the recreation of the Via Crucis with a candlelit walk which lasts into the night.

At the  midnight of Easter Friday more than a thousand pilgrims set off from Tarragona for the  Via Crucis Ecce-Homo,  a sombre piece of devotion, in which followers carrying a large cross walk  to the to the Sanctuary of Loreto.

The procession of Santo Entierro, the epicentre of Tarragona’s Easter calendar, got off to a wet start and even wetter finish. By the time the first religious float depicting the last supper reached the Cathedral the umbrellas were already out in force.
